About Mattress in a Box

Shop the BOXY mattress in a box range for Australian homes. Compare Single, Double, Queen and King options, each with a 30cm hybrid profile, memory foam comfort layers, independent pocket spring support and roll-packed delivery format.

Start with the size that fits your room, then compare the exact construction, feel, base requirements, setup guidance and current delivery terms. The box describes how the mattress is prepared for transport; the specifications tell you what the mattress will be like after it expands.

Choose your mattress in a box size

The current BOXY range covers four common Australian mattress sizes. Use the finished dimensions below to check the bed frame and room layout before ordering.

Size Finished mattress dimensions Common room fit
Single mattress in a box 920 x 1880 x 300mm Kids rooms, student rooms, studios and spare rooms
Double mattress in a box 1380 x 1880 x 300mm Guest rooms, teens and smaller bedrooms
Queen mattress in a box 1530 x 2030 x 300mm Couples and main bedrooms
King mattress in a box 1830 x 2030 x 300mm Larger main bedrooms and families

For room clearance, bed-frame fit and size-by-size planning, use the Australian mattress sizes guide. The Queen vs King room measurement guide provides a closer comparison of the two 2030mm-long options.

What is a mattress in a box?

A mattress in a box is compressed and roll-packed into a carton for transport. It is moved to the intended room while still boxed, unrolled on a suitable base and allowed to expand according to the manufacturer instructions. The final size, construction and feel depend on the specific mattress, not the packaging format alone.

Some boxed mattresses are all-foam, while others use springs and foam. The BOXY model is a hybrid mattress in a box: comfort foam and memory foam sit above independent pocket springs, with a quilted knitted cover and breathable base fabric. See the BOXY Hybrid Mattress for the complete all-sizes product specification.

Why compare construction rather than the box alone?

Compression is temporary. Once the mattress has expanded, the important differences are its layers, support system, profile, feel, dimensions and compatibility with the intended base. Two products can both arrive in boxes while using very different materials and support designs.

Foam comfort layers

The BOXY construction uses comfort foam and memory foam above the spring unit. Review the exact layer order instead of assuming every mattress in a box is a memory-foam-only mattress.

Independent pocket springs

Each pocket spring responds independently rather than as one connected spring network. Compare this construction with other spring formats in the pocket spring vs traditional spring guide.

30cm finished profile

Single, Double, Queen and King BOXY options share the same 300mm finished height. Check the combined mattress and bed-base height as well as the room footprint.

How to choose a mattress in a box

1. Match the mattress to the room

Measure the intended base, available floor area, door swing, drawers and walking paths. Do not choose from the mattress name alone; use the exact millimetre dimensions.

2. Compare the feel and construction

The BOXY Hybrid Mattress is positioned as medium-firm, with foam comfort over independent pocket springs. Feel is personal, so compare the current specification with your own preference instead of treating one firmness as universally better.

3. Check access before unboxing

Measure the narrowest doorway, stair turn, hallway and lift opening on the complete route. Move the unopened carton to the room before removing the packaging. The boxed mattress setup guide provides the step-by-step sequence.

4. Read the base, warranty and return terms

Use the current product instructions for base compatibility and setup. Check the Warranty and Delivery & Returns pages for current terms rather than relying on a general mattress guide.

Mattress in a box or traditional mattress?

The clearest difference is the delivery format. A boxed mattress arrives compressed, while a traditional mattress commonly arrives at full size. Neither format guarantees better comfort, support, value or durability. Compare the exact materials, dimensions, trial or return terms, warranty, room access and setup requirements.

Use the full mattress in a box vs traditional mattress guide for a side-by-side framework. If you are deciding between foam and spring-based constructions, continue with the hybrid vs memory foam mattress guide.

BOXY mattress in a box setup and care

Place the mattress on a suitable base and follow the packaging sequence carefully. BOXY advises allowing up to 48 hours after unboxing for the Hybrid Mattress to reach its full 30cm profile and final feel. Keep cutting tools away from the fabric and do not apply forced heat to speed expansion.

After setup, follow model-specific guidance for protectors, cleaning, airflow, support and rotation. The mattress care and rotation guide keeps those checks together, while the hybrid mattress buying guide explains the broader construction decisions.

Mattress in a box questions

Are all mattresses in a box made from memory foam?

No. The packaging format does not define the internal construction. A boxed mattress may be all-foam, latex, spring-based or hybrid. The BOXY model combines foam comfort layers with independent pocket springs.

Which mattress in a box sizes does BOXY offer?

The current range includes Single, Double, Queen and King. Each has a 30cm finished profile; width and length vary by size.

How long does the BOXY mattress take to expand?

Allow up to 48 hours after unboxing for the full 30cm profile and final feel. Use the current setup instructions supplied with the mattress.

Is a mattress in a box better than a traditional mattress?

Not automatically. Boxed delivery can simplify movement before expansion, while a full-size mattress may suit a different buying or setup preference. Construction and product terms matter more than the carton alone.

Where should I start?
